Spine of the Sky

Spine of the Sky is a work from the artist Jeane Cohen’s exhibition at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art. With no frame around the stained glass, a sheet of plexiglass was used to back the piece and provide a means for temporary attachment to the building structure. The stained glass and plexi were connected with a series of cantilevered threaded brass rods, through-bolted to the plexi, and soldered to the stained glass. An aluminum plate clamping system was devised to secure the plexi to the existing steel truss members without damage or alteration while allowing for movement and expansion. Load testing of the various components was coordinated with and carried out by the fabricator and installer, Seth Wenger.
